The sheep are out. And curious. These photos are from a trip to Crystal Spring Farm (CSF) last Saturday.
CSF is up high, but it's also flat at the top of the hill, so it's a great place for sunsets and moonrises.
Here's a closer look: And here's a later look, from another location. I know these aren't great photos, but what the heck ...Elm trees are rare these days. At one time they were major shade trees throughout the northeast and midwest. Thanks to "Dutch Elm" disease they are now mostly gone. I remember the day they took most of them down on the town green here in Brunswick. People were very emotional. I once saw a magnificent tree on the Bowdoin College campus get hit by lightning. A strip of bark about a foot wide blew off one side of the tree. It was taken down the next week. Maples, pin oaks, and the like have been planted to replace them on city streets, but there's no tree quite like an elm for the majestic size and shape. Here are two. This one is in town. It's the last one left on Pleasant Street. The street used to be lined with elms.
This one's in a more country setting. It's more of the classic elm shape than the one above.
