We had two birds fly into our biggest window this spring. They probably saw my indoor garden and tried to fly into it. This is an ovenbird, which I found dead on the lawn.
I heard this goldfinch slam into the window & went out & picked him up. I poked & prodded him a bit to wake him up and make sure he wasn't hurt. He hung out in my hand for ten minutes or so, then dashed off ...The photos were taken last month at Reid State Park. It had already begun to look like winter. This first one is looking at the back of the main dune behind the beach. (The ocean's on the other side).
A closer look at the grass: The tide rushing into the estuary under the vehicle bridge: Looking out to sea:Here's a photo of four Great Blue herons fishing at Simpson's Point in Brunswick. We watched them a long time. They were catching something small - herring, perhaps. It was another perfect day. We're having the best May ever in terms of weather. Quite the opposite of last year's endless deluge.
Here's a close-up. I've always thought they look prehistoric, like minature versions of what I imagine a pteradactyl might look like - except for the long legs, perhaps.
Here's recent sunset over Maquoit Bay, which is about 4 miles from my home. It's a great place to see the water, shorebirds, etc. You can just barely see a raft of black ducks in the right-center of this photo. There were hundreds of geese off to the right, but they were in the shadow of the shore so I couldn't photograph them. They were honking up a storm.
