We had two birds fly into our biggest window this spring. They probably saw my indoor garden and tried to fly into it. This is an ovenbird, which I found dead on the lawn.
I heard this goldfinch slam into the window & went out & picked him up. I poked & prodded him a bit to wake him up and make sure he wasn't hurt. He hung out in my hand for ten minutes or so, then dashed off ...Here are a couple of pictures from a recent visit to Popham Beach. It was low tide. The Morse River has changed course again, so we could walk out to the near island. In this photo, Seguin Island (with the lighthouse on it) looks like it's rising out of the near island.
The sea was pretty rough, and the day was cloudy, but it got nicer as it went along & was clear and sunny by the time we left.Here are some photos taken this week at Popham beach. The Morse river has changed course dramatically over the past couple of years, and the beach as I have known it for the last 30 years is changing dramatically. Most of the state park beach is gone at high tide, and the shore line has migrated dozens of yards inland. Here the forest is falling into the sea as the (formerly back-) dune erodes.
It's about a six-foot drop at the end of the pathway where the sand has eroded away ...So far this winter, there's been good skiing, a bit of skating and just plain old walking around. Here's a photo of one of my favorite trees, in Pennelville, with a tire swing on it. Just waiting for someone to swing on it ...
This is also a favorite tree. Although long dead, it's always fun to skate around it. It's in a pond on Rossmore Road.
